Corran of Imagine Surfboards about the time after winning the BrandNew Advansa Overall Award 2009:
„Its been an amazing year for us with growth of over 60%. In a market that is currently stagnant, and a global economy that is in recession, this is amazing. I have to say that winning the ispo BrandNew Award played a huge part in this. We had a great product, but what we didn't have was the notoriety or contacts to break into the global market. Ispo did this for us on both accounts.
The award on its own is a tremendous honor. With so many great companies, all with exciting and innovative products, we thought it would be a tough battle and an impossible win, so when we did we were especially excited.
This award carries great weight all over Europe. But also in the USA and other places where ispo is less known, it was easy for people interested in working with us to recognize the significance of ispo, and what the BrandNew Award means.
The general thought of "if you won that, your product must be good!" prevails, and it opened many doors for us. In the months directly following ispo we won distributors in the UK, Germany and France, and were able to open shops and get dealers all over North America by saying to them "we won ispo's coveted BrandNew Award". Without this, we would be just another surf company trying to make surfboards in a flooded, stagnant and uneventful market.
Then, beyond actually winning the award, and the bragging rights, our actual presence at ispo was very fruitful. The Brand New area gets a lot of attention, and at the show we were able to secure a distributor for Japan and Scandinavia, as well as making contact with many retail shops all across Europe, many of whom now buy from our distributors there.
Entering the BrandNew contest was the best thing we did out of all our decisions in 2008, and the fruits of winning this award contributed hugely to our unprecedented growth in 2009. The money we made from sales has allowed us to expand, develop new and exciting products, and we are more secure and solid as a company today than we have been since we started.
Ispo is a very important trade fair worldwide for the sports industry. The Brand New Village is prestigious and gets large amounts of traffic, and this is the stepping stone that small companies need to really get going.
