Thanks to its resounding success at ispo for many years and an increased number of applications from the bicycle sector, the world´s largest start-up competition for innovations will take place at Bike Expo for the first time. „Cycling trends for city and nature“ - based upon the motto of Bike Expo the applications wil be put in different categories like for example e-bike/pedelec. You can apply until the 7th of May with your innovations in the bike department.

On Snow preview

It´s that time of the year again - on the 28th and 29th of january, only 9 days before ispo starts, the ispo On Snow Preview took place where the winner and finalists of the ispo BrandNew Awards had the opportunity to present their products to the press prior to ispo - in 1.340 meters altitude at Kreuzeck in Garmisch Partenkirchen. Innovations like the SkiGo from Moticon, the Vaco Technology helmet and the Camterminal were tested and documented under very winterly conditions.
The BrandNew products went down very well with the well-known TV stations like for example ZDF, RTL, BR and many more, and were definitely in the limelight. Several recordings were already broadcasted the same day or will be in the next few days before ispo. Again - the ispo On Snow Preview was a raving success for BrandNew and all the signs are that ispo10 will be very exciting.

Chasing olympic medals

Last year's ispo BrandNew finalist Kessler has made it. As a well known brand in Snowboard racing (8 out of 10 alpine snowboard riders use boards with Kessler technology KST Clotoid), Kessler athletes have the chance to win 5 olympic medals. Thanks to ispo BrandNew, Kessler entered the ski market with success and have established distributors in the main markets already. The first winter was a bif success and the new Kessler collection will be shown in hall A5/244 at their stand.

Winner and finalists cause quite a stir

At the end of december the exciting day had come! The winners and finalists of this years ispo BrandNew Awards have been announced. Only just about a month later taking part at the Awards has already payed off for them. Widely read and internationally known magazines like Shape, FitForFun and Men´s Health have covered the story and the sports trade magazine SAZ has dedicated a double-page spread in the current issue to the ispo BrandNew Awards. The information about the newcomers have also been published on various websites.
The response of the press, retailers and potential customers is overwhelming - the revolutionary running shoe of the Overall Winner ON for example causes quite an uproar like a winner never did before. The requests are piling up like ON would have never dared to dream of. ispo BrandNew is already a huge success for some of the winners and finalists - even before ispo has kicked off. This response shows that the sporting goods industry is poised for innovations and new brands. ispo BrandNew is the largest start-up competition worldwide - and that speaks for itself.

The winners and finalists of the ispo BrandNew Award 2010 have been determined! This year it was a very difficult task for the jury - there have never been as many as 305 applications and the quality of the products was unbelievably high. After a testing session that was interesting and full of fun and lively discussions the winners and finalists were distinguished. Soon, it´ll be the time: On Monday December 21st, 2009 the final desicions will be published.

ispo BrandNew Award participants exhibit in Portugal

After a successful presence in the BrandNew Village of the ispo winter 2009, a number of ispo BrandNew Award 2009 exhibitors were asked to present their products at the textile trade fair Modtissimo in Porto/Portugal. Everything was organised by the ispo in order to guarantee the young companies full support during their trade fair presentation.

With over 300 exhibitors and more than 4300 trade visitors - among them were manyf international buyers - the trade fair was a success and the 7 BrandNew companies were able to present their new and innovative products to the international textile industry.
The young companies generated remarkable attention and especially the universities and professional schools were interested.

The ispo information booth and the BrandNew companies were situated in the Open Space of the „Textiles of the future“ hall, were there were colourful fashion shows with international models on the one side, and were on the other side international trade fairs and research centers had their place.
For the BrandNew team the trade fair was also promising, as they found a number of interesting brands and potential ispo BrandNew Award participants.

The ispo BrandNew Award participation the hardware accessories finalist of 2009 bore fruit for hardware accessories finalist `2eleven´. Many national and international enquiries were made since the ispo 2009 and the innovative table soccer could be represented around the globe now.

Zirkeltraining

This year, the young german brand Zirkeltraining is nominated for the design prize of the Federal Republic of Germany, which is the highest possible prize for design in Germany. After the company, that produces bags out of recycled sport equipment leather and gym mats, has won the Coolmax Accessories Award at the ispo BrandNew Awards 2009, the success is steadily increasing.

The design prize can only be awarded to businesses which were nominated by the Ministry of Economics and whose products have already won an international or national prize. It is known as the „prize of the prizes“.

The distinction following the BrandNew Award was the decisive factor for this afreshed nomination. Therefore, the presence of Zirkeltraining in the BrandNew Village has not only caused quite a stir amongst retailers and the sports community, but has also impressed the highest German design panel. No surprise that the magazine MacLife awards the laptop bags of Zirkeltraining the rating „recommendation“.

Koga-Miyata produces Bergmönch

Big success for Bergmönch: Due to the winning of the YKK Hardware Summer Award of the ispo BrandNew Awards winter 09 and their presence at ispo, the young entrepreneurs found a strong partner to realize the serial production.

The Dutch bicycle manufacturer will exclusively produce and distribute the innovative sports product.
The cooperation has come about due to a report about the success at the ispo BrandNew Awards in a Dutch engineer magazine. An engineer at Koga became aware and presented it to the head of the business – and got the ball rolling.

The inventors Thomas Kaiser and Christian Wassermann will be closely linked to the project in future.
Besides Koga-Miyata as producer of the frame etc. another considerable Partner is also in the loop. The Outdoor and cycling specialist Vaude produces the included backpack.
At the moment final changes are settled with the development department of Koga to finalize the serial product.
The new Bergmönch shall be introduced at the OutDoor trade show and will be delivered to the retailers in 2010.
The new Bergmönch will cost 1,499 Euro.

Huge success of the new bike exhibition in Munich

BIKE EXPO 2009

From 23rd to 26th of July BIKE EXPO,the novel exhibition for bike enthustiastic trade visitors and end-consumers, took place for the first time.

The two days for visitors from the industry itself at the beginning were already extremely positive: More than 5,000 visitors from 42 countries admired and gazed at new trends and innovations.
On the two following days, over 20,000 bikefans tested the latest designs and inventions.
Pedelecs and E-Bikes, whose significance is currently rising substantially, were ranked among the innovative trends. Mountainbikes, fitness - and citybikes as well as road- and trekkingbikes and racing bikes were of course also shown.

On site, the BrandNew-team got a picture of the industry and discovered some interesting brands and potential participants, like Elmoto, Rolektro, Erectusbikes, Veloboy and many more.
Coming from all parts of the world, the mixture of exhibitors was refreshing. A total of over 25 countries were represented and left a rather atypical picture of the exhibition. Hardly any moutainbikes, but instead highly interesting concepts for fun- and every-day-bikes and an impressive open-air area, that allowed true festival character. Altogether, 25,000 sqm event- and exhibition area on the Freigelände Ost and 22,000 sqm exhibtion area in halls were used.

The motto of the exhibition "Cycling Trends for City and Nature" stood for urban mobility, which becomes more and more important, now and in the future.

BIKE EXPO the First, can be labelled as a massive success and BIKE EXPO 2010 will definitely present further novelties and innovations.

Skateistan begins construction

Skateistan, winner of the ispo BrandNew Social Awareness Award winter 09, has succeeded. In the war-torn city of Kabul Afghanistan's first skateboarding-hall is in the process of being constructed. The project is supposed to give hope and joy to the city‘s suffering children and enriches their lives by lgiven them an opportunity to practice skateboarding in their neighborhood.

The construction of the 1750 square meter hall was recently begun on a territory of land offered by the Afghanistan National Olympic Comittee (ANOC). As of now, there are approximately 145.000 US Dollars available for the project. The founder of Skateistan, Oliver Percovich, estimates that the total costs will rise up to as much as 400.000 US Dollars. Normally, the costs of an equivalent construction amount to at least 1 Mio. US Dollar, but the financial support from several institutions facilitates the implementation of the project, so that it can be realised with more moderate means.

As a result of wunning the ispo BrandNew Award, Skateistan has achieved public attention and has made important contacts with other influential companies, all of which have facilitated the construction of the skateboard hall and in doing so has created new perspectives for many children.

In order for keeping the construction team employed and to cover further costs donations are crucial. Only with more aid can this project be successfully completed.
